Not just “in” but also “with”

Phrases like “Christ in me”, “Christ formed in us”, “Christ living in me” are famous for using the preposition in. This little word creates a great impact such that the unsearchable, immeasurable, vast, and exceedingly rich God is now living and making His home in us. Wonderful.

But aside from this preposition, another important little word is also worth apprehending. The word “with” has something more to imply.

A brother shared that in sociology man is considered to be a social animal for the fact that he is less able to live alone. Man is more likely to form a society where he can have somebody else to live with him. Hence, it is embedded in our nature that we go along with someone and socialize.

This natural tendency of being sociable can be simplified by the relationship of a father and a son. It is the natural tendency of a son to depend his life to his father. The son lives, walks, and even plays with the father. As long as the father is near, the son is at peace. The father’s nearness is what is important to the son. However, even if the son is with the father, he does not have the equal of position as with the father. The son does not decide for himself, rather, he is dependent to the father’s decision. The son waits for the father to decide because he knows who this person is who is with him.

In like manner, the Lord Jesus is not just a Person who is in us but also with us. In the book of Matthew, His Name is not just Jesus (Matthew 1:21) but also Emmanuel – God with us (v. 23). The footnote of verse 23 says, “Jesus the Savior is God with us. He is God, and He is also God incarnated to dwell among us (John 1:14). He is not only God but God with us.”

As the One who is in us, He is our life, our life supply, our Person. As the One who is with us, He is the One leading our way, our decisions, our security. We should not just be impressed with the fact that we are not alone, that the Lord has not left us as He said, “…behold, I am 2cwith you all the days until the 3dconsummation of the age” (Matthew 28:20). But we also need to have a fresh realization of who this One is who is with us.

If we realize that the one who is with us is the God who created all things, who was processed to be our all, the Sovereign who arranged every environment for us, the King of Kings sitting on the throne, we would all behave as if we are in the presence of our earthly royalties. With us is the Person clothed with all majesty who was incarnated, crucified, resurrected, ascended and became the life-giving Spirit to be our reality. He dwelt among us as One who is “full of 6dgrace and 6ereality” (John 1:14). Having realized who this One is, will you still make your own decision?

May the Lord open our eyes more that we would appreciate who this One is who is living in and with us that we would treasure every “today” that we have “to live with Christ as Emmanuel. Our living is always with another person, Emmanuel, God with us. We also have to walk by Him, not as Emmanuel but as the life-giving Spirit.”* Then such an enjoyment of Him as the individual Emmanuel will consummate in the New Jerusalem as the corporate Emmanuel. Let’s all pursue to experience and enjoy this One TODAY!

Fellowship Concerning Brother Lee’s Deep Concern Regarding the Future of the Lord’s Recovery and the Responsibility of the Ministry

Our brother told us that the devil tries to subtly creep into the churches in the recovery and bring in damaging foreign things that are cleverly disguised and difficult to discern. These things may appear to be part of the Lord’s recovery, but their inward element and nature are absolutely different. This is a real battle. The Lord’s only wayto gain the earth is to recover and spread the truth. The truth is the only remedy, inoculation, and antibiotic. The truths need to be inscribed into our being in a way that cannot be erased.

Today among us the Lord has recovered the central revelation of Paul’s completing ministry concerning Christ as the mystery of God and the church as the mystery of Christ. This vision includes the Body of Chirst, the new man, and our organic union with the Lord. Brother Nee once confided in Brother Lee that he was unhappy with the situation in mainland China because many followed his ministry yet did not see the vision that he saw. Likewise, Brother Lee’s greatest concern was whether many of the saints truly saw the central vision. If they did not see the vision, then their labor was in vain. Numbers mean nothing without the central vision.

The difference between the Lord’s recovery and traditional Christianity is the central vision. If the saints do not see the central vision, we will become a repetition of traditional Christianity, and the Lord will be delayed in carrying out His recovery and accomplishing His purpose. This is serious. This is why we do not care primarily for the spreading of the churches, the increase in numbers, or other apparent signs of blessing. Instead, our main interest is to release the word concerning the central vision and to care for the real situation in all the churches.

Some saints must see the central vision in solid way in order fo the Lord to have a way; otherwise, we are only a repetition and a part of traditional Christianity. We all need to see the vision in Paul’s completing ministry. At this time the Lord is carrying out His ultimate recovery. The time will come when there will be nothing left to be recovered. This is the highest peak of the Lord’s recovery – the highest peak of the Bible is Paul’s completing ministry. John’s mending ministry strengthens and confirms Paul’s completing ministry. These two ministries are like a single mountain with two peaks.

Sooner of later the Lord will carry out the highest peak of His recovery. If we fail Him, He will be forced to wait and to gain another people, those who will find and treasure what we have spoken and published but failed to appreciate or experience. Although our Brother Lee was concerned for the present recovery, the leading brothers, and the result of his ministry, he was comforted by knowing that if this generation fails the Lord, all the truths are printed and will remain for another generation to pick up and carry out. He knew that as long as the truth is released, it will not return vainly.

Whether this truth accomplishes its purpose today or we fail and delay it, some day it will prevail to accomplish its goal. What the Lord and the churches need today is  for us to carry out the truth that He has opened to us in His Word; otherwise, we can do only an ordinary Christian work.

Brother Lee also told us that we should meet and function because our vision is an inner motivation that causes us to be fresh and burning in spirit.

What then is the responsibility of the ministry? We have the church, the work, and the ministry, all of which take the Body as the governing principle. The church is the Body in miniature, in expression; the work is the Body seeking increase; and the ministry is the Body in function. The ministry serves the church and serves the work by maintaining the focus of the central vision. There is the constant need for some to be watchmen on the wall with the trumpet in their hand, and by their prayer, the prayer of God, the prayer in the realm of God’s economy, they watch over the entire situation of the recovery for any signs of deviation and any lack of vision. Then if any such sign appears, the ministry will come forth.

As one of many brothers serving the Lord in this corporate ministry, as long as I have breath, I will pray and speak concerning this, along with my dear fellow slaves, so that during our course, we would never deviate. If we become part of traditional Christianity, we are finished.

-Bro. R. K.; The Ministry of the Word – Crystallization-Study of Daniel and Zechariah. Vol. 17, No.1., January 2013. pp. 238-239

There is just so much weight when the brother shared this. We never want to fail the Lord. Now, as we pray to Him, we no longer should pray to be humble, patient, or loving, but only to become the reproduction of Christ as the Lamb-stone. Day by day we are being stonified. Only stones can be built up. We need to pray in such a way that we are praying for the building. Unless the church is built-up, the Lord cannot come back.

Lord Jesus, we don’t want to delay Your return. Infuse us more with Yourself as the Stone with seven eyes for Your building. Lord, look into us. Cause us to be Your duplication, Your reproduction. Constrain us with the central vision!

When John failed

In the past I shared about how John the baptist came to be a wonderful pattern in living a life that is an anti-testimony in that age who became the turning point of the Old Testament Age into the New Testament Age. As he ended the dispensation of the law and the prophets, he started the dispensation of grace, preaching the gospel of repentance. From this we can see that his ministry was to introduce men to Christ that Christ might become their Redeemer, their life, and their all. Indeed, he was a forerunner of Christ to pave the way for Christ and introduce Christ.

Despite this, some of Johns disciples have deviated from John’s goal of bringing them to Christ. In John 3 (vs. 26), we can see that his disciples were perplexed as to why John was baptizing while there is another Man who was also baptizing. His answer was quite impressive. John said,

28 You yourselves testify of me that I said, aI am not the Christ, but I have been sent before Him.

29 aHe who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices with joy because of the bridegroom’s voice. This joy of mine therefore is made full.

30 He must 1increase, but I must decrease.

It seems that he knows very well that Jesus is the Christ. But when he was thrown into prison, John came to doubt whether the Lord Jesus was really the Christ. This is seen in Mattew 11:2-3 and Luke 7:19-20. In response to this, the Lord said,

Blessed is he who is not 1astumbled because of Me.

John might have been stumbled by the fact that he wasn’t delivered by the Lord. The footnotes on verse 23 of Luke 7 says,

231 When it looks as if the Lord will not act on our behalf, we are blessed if we are not stumbled.

Why didn’t the Lord act on John’s behalf?

I was quite astonished to learn the cause of John’s beheading. It turned out that it was necessary for God to arrange the environment to remove John and terminate his ministry. This is because, when the Lord Jesus came as the reality of the gospel that John preached, he did not stop his doing. His baptism of repentance became an out-of-date truth yet it was still being received by people, thus creating a rivalry between him and Christ. John’s disciples had made a religion out of it that they were even called as the ‘disciples of John’ (Matt. 9:14;John 3:25). His disciples has indeed drifted away from his goal, Christ.

To be religious means to do things for God without Christ. Even to do anything scriptural and fundamental, yet lacking the presence of Christ, is religious.

This is such a warning! May we be delivered from all self-effort and Christless labor. The brother who gave the message on this lesson shared that “in the church, we are not following persons. Rather, we follow Christ as our only Head. If the persons who ushered us to the Lord deviate from Him, the Truth, we should not go along with them. We follow them because the Truth is in them.”

Aside from John, several persons in the Bible were ceased to be mentioned especially in the Book of Acts because of being not in one accord with the Body. Some of them were Apollos and Barnabas. Today, the Lord is in the Body. His work is also with the Body. If we work apart from Him and His Body, He might be forced to terminate us in our work no matter how unintentional it may be.

Lord, have Your way in us! Increase in us, Lord. Subdue us that we may be absolute to You. Don’t let us work apart from You, Lord. Deliver us from any unconscious form of religion!

Let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement…of spirit..

Just these past few days, I was bothered by what a brother shared concerning a very well-known fantasy magical novel-turned-to-movie series. Before that he shared about preaching the gospel and went to the matter that his son was able to pass the test because of someone that has told him about sorcery… It means that his son was able to never read even a single book of that novel neither has he seen any movie of it since he knew that it was about sorcery. The word “passed the test” sank to me deeply and I thought I was really so unfortunate that in my case, I’ve read all the books of the series and have even seen the movies. That was when I was in my 4th yr in high school. Now, four years after, I just knew that what I did wasn’t a good idea.

I then wondered how can there be something wrong with what I did when for me, I never intended to practice magic or sorcery or divination, if there really is, neither do I even believe in them, and I only intended to know the story since at that time, every one else is so hooked to it and I can’t afford myself to be left behind.

I have been asking this question before and it seems that I don’t get satisfied with the answers I receive. This question is that if practice of sorcery is abominable to God and that touching those things defiles the spirit, then how does reading or watching a story about it defiles my spirit if I don’t even practice it myself, neither believed in it?

An elder brother helped me to see the truth behind this matter and have pointed me to some verses. They are enlisted in the following:

  • Lev. 19:26 You shall not eat anything with blood, nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying. (27) You shall not round the corners of your heads, nor shall you mar the edges of your beard. (28) You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor inscribe any marks upon you; I am Jehovah. (20:27) If there is a man or a woman who is a medium or a spiritist, they shall surely be put to death. They shall stone them with stones; their blood shall be upon them.
  • Deu 18:9 When you enter the land which Jehovah your God is giving you, you shall not learn to do things according to the abominations of those nations. (10) There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through fire; anyone who performs divination, practices soothsaying, or interprets omens; or anyone who employs sorcery (11) Or casts spells; or anyone who consults a spirit of the dead or a familiar spirit or inquires of the dead; (12) For everyone who does these things is an abomination to Jehovah; and on account of these abominations Jehovah your God is dispossessing them from before you. (13) You shall be blameless toward Jehovah your God. (14) For these nations whom you are dispossessing listen to those who practice soothsaying and to those who perform divination, but Jehovah your God has not allowed you to do so.
  • Isa. 47:9 – But these two things will come upon you/ Suddenly, in one day:/ Loss of children and widowhood;/ In full measure they will come upon you/ In spite of the multitude of your sorceries;/ In spite of the great power of your spells.
  • 2Cor. 7:1 – Therefore since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and of spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
  • Gal 5:19 – And the works of the flesh are manifest, which are such things as fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, (20) Idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, divisions, sects,…
  • Rev. 9:21, 1Sam.28:7-14

From these verses, especially from their footnotes (in the Recovery version of the Bible), we can see that doing something to our own will is actually as evil as contacting an evil spirit, a rebellion against God. By simply reading and watching the story, whose will was obeyed? Surely, it wasn’t God’s.

In Acts 16:6, we can also see that forbidding is the Holy Spirit’s leading. As I continued to watch similar movies related to magic after I was aware of the verses above, though I may still question myself of the same question above, but there is the undeniable bothering inside me which led me to ask another brother who had been in the church life for a long time.

And this is what he said. ‘Even though you simply read the words, but in every word there is the element of something. As long as it is not God’s, it is Satan’s. By reading them, you have touched an element of Satan. If your mind keeps on questioning, then you lack faith in the Lord. It is by faith that we are saved and by faith that we will be delivered. But everything has something to do with our growth in life.’

I simply could not accept how immature I was. I couldn’t hold my tears back in realizing this. As I have been struggling with my mind, my spirit was there actually giving me a ‘bothering’ sense to which I do not want to take heed. It actually doesn’t want me to touch those things again and again as if I hadn’t known the Lord, but I regret that I neglected it just because I followed my reasonings. I may have not practiced anything related to sorcery – divination, soothsaying, etc- but by simply reading or watching about them, that is to “touch” them, a dispensing have been received that is not of life. Every word is a dispensing. The brother even told me that brother Lee once said that even if you don’t understand the Word, just read it and you will be watered. Oh, how we should consider our ways even in the words that we ‘touch’! May we don’t just do anything according to the fashion of this age, “but be transformed by the renewing of the mind that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and well pleasing and perfect.”(Rom.12:2) And may we just redeem our time to read the Word of God that we would then be just “with unveiled face, beholding and reflecting like a mirror the glory of the Lord”(2Cor. 3:18)!

I will also never forget the word the elder brother said. What is past, is past! What is ahead, is ahead and we have an opportunity to follow the Lord! 🙂..

May the Lord Jesus bless us all in our church life as His testimony on the earth today.
